City of Poems with Poetika
Just right for an afternoon cup of tea, join Salisbury’s poetry group Poetika at Boston Tea Party for a special session of readings of Salisbury poetry old and new:
The Old: George Herbert, Williams Shakespeare and Wordsworth, Edmund Spenser, Christopher Marlowe, Samuel Daniel, Ben Jonson, John Donne and Michael Drayton have all either lived in or visited Salisbury, and this event starts with a celebration of some of the classic poems written about the city.
The New: In the second half Poetika will be reading a selection of new works written by local poets about our city, taken from the pamphlet published for this occasion and on sale in aid of local charity Children’s Chance.
Poetika holds meetings on the third Wednesday of the month upstairs at the Cloisters Inn, Catherine Street. Each event includes an open mic where everyone has a few minutes to read or perform poetry, prose, acoustic music, comedy – they’ve even had a mentalist – anything that can be performed to a warm and supportive audience. In addition to the open mic they regularly headline leading local poets – more details at poetika.org.uk or facebook.com/PoetikaSalisbury
